A removable appliance worn in place of missing teeth. They have the potential to increase a person’s self-esteem by making them appear and feel younger. They aid in function as well, making it easier for patients to eat and communicate.
When all of the teeth in either the upper or lower jaw are missing, full dentures are used to restore the patient’s smile and bite. Acrylic (a robust plastic) is typically used for their construction, and they depend on vacuum and muscular powers to stay in place. Natural looking and lifelike acrylic dentures are also available from us.
However, full dentures can be problematic for patients with insufficient gum tissue, especially in the lower jaw. Shifting dentures are a common source of embarrassment, a decrease in chewing efficiency, and painful sites on the gums. In addition, many denture adhesives are unpleasant to use or fail to hold the dentures in place at all. These problems can, fortunately, be resolved by implant retained dentures. Patients leave our practise beaming with newfound self-assurance and able to try foods they previously feared.
When only some of a person’s teeth are missing, a partial denture can be used. They can be crafted from acrylic, much like complete dentures. Patients, however, typically ask
that their dentures be made as small as possible without sacrificing security or comfort. Towards this end, we can choose between two types of partial dentures.
Dentures made from cobalt chrome will last a very long time. Due to the metal alloy used for the denture’s frame, clasps can be used to help secure the appliance in place. When a patient has a small mouth, they come in especially handy. The denture is thinner and more comfortable because of the metal’s strength.
Patients are increasingly interested in the option of flexible dentures. Flexible dentures, made possible by developments in acrylic technology, are both lightweight and long-lasting. In contrast to metal-based cobalt chrome dentures, these removable alternatives allow for the addition of clasps to aid in denture retention. This is because the plastic used in these dentures is so sturdy that we can make them extremely thin, thereby avoiding the typical denture problem of a thick, cumbersome feel. Because of the plastic’s colour and transparency, the natural gums are effectively visible
